After eight years forecasting Minnesota’s famously unpredictable weather, Jennifer McDermed is leaving Fox 9.
McDermed announced in a social media post that she will step away from her role later this month as she and her family prepare to move to California.
“After a lot of thought, the best decision for my family right now is to go on our next adventure,” she wrote. “We’re moving to California — closer to family and to Gio’s job.”
McDermed arrived in Minnesota eight years ago knowing no one in the state and went on to build both a career and a life here. During her time at Fox 9, she became a familiar face to viewers through blizzards, severe weather and stories from across the state.
She wrote that she made lifelong friends, adopted her first dog, Millie, met her husband, Gio, and welcomed two children.
“I love being a meteorologist. I love forecasting the weather,” McDermed wrote, listing Minnesota staples from ice fishing and breweries to the North Shore, state parks and northern lights.
While acknowledging nerves about the move, McDermed said Minnesota will always feel like home and that she hopes to return someday.
“I’m a Midwest girl (always will be at heart),” she wrote.
