Jake Guentzel nabs NHL-leading eighth playoff goal - with a little luck

Former Hill-Murray star Jake Guentzel's goal Wednesday in Game 4 came when his crossing pass deflected off Washington defenseman Dmitry Orlov and by goalie Braden Holtby.

One man's joy is another man's sorrow. And in this case, it's Jake Guentzel with all the joy and Dmitry Orlov with so, so much sorrow.

Guentzel, the former Hill-Murray prep player who has turned into this season's NHL playoff hotshot for the Penguins, kept his remarkable spring going Wednesday night. It came at the expense of Orlov.

With Washington already trailing by a goal early in the second period, Guentzel's centering pass in front of Capitals goalie Braden Holtby cracked off Orlov's right skate and into the back of the net.

"I don't think he [could shoot] 20, 30, 40 pucks - I don't think it's going to go in," Orlov said. "It just bounced so hard and [went] into the net. Bad bounce for us."

Indeed. But for Guentzel, it was good for his playoff-leading eighth goal of the postseason and it helped Pittsburgh win the game 3-2 to take a 3-1 lead in the second-round series.

Hey - you take 'em how you can get 'em.
