Irish med-tech firm buys Tactx

Creganna, an Irish supplier of technology and services to medical device and life sciences companies, said Monday it has acquired Avalon Medical Services, which does business as Tactx Medical Inc. Terms were not disclosed.

The new company will be known as Creganna-Tactx Medical. Both companies have a presence in the Twin Cities, employing about 88 people total locally.

Creganna has manufacturing facilities in Galway, Ireland, and Marlborough, Mass., plus sales offices in the Twin Cities, San Diego and Finland. Tactx is based in Campbell, Calif., and has manufacturing facilities in the Twin Cities and Singapore. Together, the companies employ more than 800 people worldwide, and report a combined annual revenue of $110 million.

The companies provide technology and services for minimally invasive medical procedures. Customers include Abbott Laboratories, Boston Scientific Corp. and St. Jude Medical Inc.

"Our customers, medical device companies, are increasingly looking to strategic partners to fulfill more of their supply chain requirements," Creganna CEO Helen Ryan said in a statement. "With our global locations, combined technologies and range of services, Creganna-Tactx Medical is strategically positioned to meet these evolving needs."
