Listening to Alan Horton work Timberwolves' games solo is like hearing someone describe the action -- sometimes with unanticipated passion thrown in -- to a friend via the phone.

Hearing Vikings play-by-play voice Paul Allen is like sitting next to the team's biggest fan: Someone who'll give you a hearty high five when things are good and get all grumpy when things go wrong.

All of this is a set-up to the cult figure that is Iceland's play-by-play announcer in the Euro2016 soccer tournament, in which the nation of 330,000 people has made an improbable run to the quarterfinals.

That would be Gudmundur Benediktsson. Like most people involved with the national team -- the team manager is a dentist -- Benediktsson's play calling isn't a full-time job. In fact, he was fired recently as the assistant general manager of a team in Reykjavik.

As a soccer announcer, Benediktsson makes Telemundo's Andres (GOOOOOL!) Cantor sound subdued.

Here's what it sounded like when Iceland scored its second goal on Monday in its shocking 2-1 victory over England to move into the tournament quarterfinals.
