Hummel injures knee cartilage in Spain, out 4-6 weeks

Ouch, again.

Timberwolves second-round pick Robbie Hummel's knee problems continue.

The guy who tore his ACL twice within 10 months in 2010 now has sustained a meniscus injury in his right knee while playing in Spain, according to the Spanish site familiaobradoirista.blogspot.com.

Certainly, it's not on the same scale as those torn ACLs, but he is returning to the U.S. to have arthroscopic surgery and is expected to miss four to six weeks.

Hummel signed to play in Spain this season with the Wolves' approval to continue his return from those two ACL injuries that caused him to miss the entire 2010-11 season.

A few other things:

* Free-agent center Hassan Whiteside worked out in Miami on Tuesday, but his agent said the Wolves remain "very much in the mix" to sign the 7-foot shotblocker. Agent Brian Samuels said a "few" other teams are interested in working out his client. At this point, the question probably is what team is willing to give him guaranteed money and how much?

* Players are arriving at Target Center by the day to work out in advance of training camp's Oct. 2 opening in Mankato.

Brandon Roy and Malcolm Lee arrived last week. Nikola Pekovic, Chase Budinger, Luke Ridnour have been in the gym this week and Greg Stiemsma arrived today.. Alexei Shved and Andrei Kirilenko will be Minnesota-bound after completing that three-day NBA Basketball Without Border event in Russia this week.
