Details: A parcel of commercially zoned land, vacant since Chanhassen's Villages on the Ponds mixed-use area was first laid out in the 1990s, is in line for a new multitenant retail building from Solomon Real Estate Group.

The Minnetonka-based retail developer submitted plans to erect a 13,652-square-foot building, designed to hold restaurant and service retailing tenants, on a pad site currently shared with the Community Bank at 455 Pond Promenade. Under the plans, the site is to be subdivided into a 1.45-acre parcel for the new Village Shoppes of Chanhassen.

The Villages on the Ponds area, along the south side of Hwy. 5 (Arboretum Blvd.), was first platted in 1996 as a 66-acre development envisioned to hold 291,000 square feet of commercial, 100,000 square feet of institutional uses and 322 housing units. It has since attracted such commercial takers as the bank, an AmericInn hotel, Lakewinds Food Co-op and an earlier multitenant retail building.

The plans submitted by Solomon show a structure featuring dark brown brick and cultured-stone columns, which could separate potential tenants. There is also decorative masonry along the base and insulated exterior wall cladding along the top.
