Details: Senior housing builder Presbyterian Homes has set a spring construction start for the Johanna Shores Brownstones, a two-building second phase at its Johanna Shores campus redevelopment project in Arden Hills.

Presbyterian Homes, which has been on the 23-acre site since 1955, launched a large-scale redevelopment effort there in late 2011. Its new amenities include a 38,000-square-foot town center, featuring a conservatory, wellness center, movie theater, chapel, classrooms, library, salon and bistro.

The first phase was completed last year with the official opening of the 162-unit Lakeview Building.

Last month, the Arden Hills City Council approved the second phase, the Johanna Shores Brownstones, which will feature 40 independent living units in two, 17,000-square-foot buildings connected by a one-story glass structure. The spot at the southwest corner of the campus was cleared with the earlier demolition of the former Sutton Place apartments.

The Brownstones will be a mix of one- and two-bedroom units ranging in size from 900 to 1,778 square feet. Ground-level apartments will sport front doors and porches, while second-story units will have decks.

Presbyterian Homes expects construction will be completed ahead of a Dec. 31, 2016, deadline set by the city as part of a $1.1 million tax increment financing package awarded in 2010.
