Type: Senior rentals

Units: 114

Size (after expansion): 23,528 square feet

Developer: Albert Miller

Architect: Kaas Wilson Architects

Details: A 60-unit Golden Valley senior housing complex that has been vacant for several years would be updated and expanded under plans presented this month from real estate developer Albert Miller.

The facility, once known as the Country Villa Assisted Living Center, has been idle since its current owner, Assisted Living Concepts of Chicago, found it unprofitable to operate such a small complex. Under Miller's proposal, the new Golden Valley Senior Living would be expanded by 54 units of assisted living and memory care housing.

Link Wilson of the Kaas Wilson architecture firm told the Golden Valley Planning Commission in July the 18-year-old building is still in very good shape despite being mothballed for approximately three years, making the upgrades much more feasible. The main work will be to expand the structure's footprint with new additions and courtyards.

New amenities include a library, spas, fitness center, activity spaces and additional dining space. Physical plant upgrades will include improved lighting, sprinkler systems and mechanical units. Exterior materials for the additions will match the existing building.

The complex will be positioned to address the "intermediate cost" senior housing market in Golden Valley, which is mostly dominated by high-end facilities, the developer said. Miller told the commission 10 percent of new facility's units will be reserved for low-income residents.

Some say the MAHA movement and GLP-1 drugs hurt sugar beet farmers. The White House is blaming former President Joe Biden.
