Details: A $60 million expansion of Fairview Ridges Hospital is "a go" after receiving unanimous approvals for a planned unit development Tuesday by the Burnsville City Council.

The makeover on the 26-acre campus includes four major elements — a new, 130,000-square-foot medical office building; an adjoining four-level, 475-stall parking ramp; a series of three additions to the hospital itself; and a skyway connecting the hospital and the new office building.

Fairview officials say the office building will be used for same-day surgery and computer-aided tomography and magnetic resonance imaging — functions that are now performed in the hospital. Its exterior will feature dark brown brick, as well as the same stone veneer proposed for the hospital expansion. The parking ramp will also feature tan precast accents.

"This will position the hospital to be very relevant, very cost-effective, and really bring more services to the community that people now have to leave for," hospital President Beth Kreh­biel told the City Council. "This will be wonderful for the citizens of not only Burnsville but for this whole region."
