Duluth’s Hoops Brewing will pour its final pint in February.
Owner Dave Hoops announced the closure in a video posted to social media on Jan. 22.
“It’s really not that easy to say goodbye, but it’s been a remarkable 10 years down here,” he said.
Hoops, a veteran brewer by the time he opened his “destination brew hall” in Canal Park in June 2017, set out to build a space for the community to gather, order in food from nearby restaurants — and to watch hockey.
“This place has been bigger than beer,” Hoops said. “It’s been community, neighbors, friendship — and it’s been home.”
The Canal Park brewery will close Feb. 23.
Hoops Brewing extensively refurbished the former Timber Lodge Steakhouse in tourist-heavy Canal Park, and the brewery’s focus was heavy on taproom sales versus distributing in kegs and cans.
Hoops was master brewer at Fitger’s Brewhouse in Duluth for 17 years and lead brewer at California’s Pyramid Brewery before that.
