HomeServices of America Inc. said it acquired Houlihan Lawrence, a brokerage in the northern suburbs of New York City.

Terms weren't disclosed. Houlihan Lawrence employs 1,300 sales associates in six counties in New York and Connecticut and was involved in transactions valued at nearly $7 billion last year. The firm started in 1888 and has a reputation for selling luxury homes in the New York suburbs.

The deal boosts the size and reach of Minneapolis-based HomeServices, best known locally as the parent of Edina Realty. The company's affiliates, which keep their local names, in 28 states around the country were involved in transactions valued at around $93 billion last year.
