High school target league continues to grow

I've written about the amazing success of the Minnesota State High School Clay Target League. (See http://www.startribune.com/a1214.)The sport continues to attract youngsters.This year, the league has 57 teams representing 100 schools and 1,500 student athletes. Credit the support of their schools and hundreds of volunteer coaches. The kids will be trap shooting weekly in April and May at shooting ranges across the state. "This is the fifth consecutive year that our league has doubled in teams, schools and athlete numbers," said Jim Sable, executive director. Youths in grades six through twelve to participate in shooting sports while creating a "virtual" competition among high schools throughout Minnesota. Shooting practices and competition are conducted at a shooting range near the school's location. A true team scoring system is used in three shooting performance categories – top score, top five scores and team average score. The season culminates with the State Tournament at Alexandria Shooting Park in Alexandria June 9-10. The Minnesota State High School Clay Target League is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization.
