Gov. Mark Dayton continues the Governor's Deer Opener tradition this year in Biwabik, though he's not a deer hunter. He attended events Friday, but planned to head back to St. Paul and wasn't going to hunt as he did at the inaugural Governor's Pheasant Opener last month. "He's said he's not a deer hunter, he's a bird hunter,'' said Mark Johnson, executive director of the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association. "But he's extremely supportive (of deer hunting)."I'd love to see him out there deer hunting, but if he's not comfortable, I don't have a problem with that. It's not for everyone. For some, their passion is deer, for others it's birds, or fish or golf.''
