Gophers defenseman Mark Alt was named the WCHA's co-offensive player of the week along with University of Alaska Anchorage forward Mitch Bruijsten.
Alt, a 6-3, 202-pound sophomore from Cretin-Derham Hall, had two two goals and three assists as the Gophers split with Michigan Tech last weekend, losing 3-2 in overtime in the first game and winning 6-2 in the second game.
His five points were more than any other WCHA player had. He scored the first goal on Friday and had an assist on the second goal. He was named the game's No. 2 star.
On Saturday, Alt has the game-winning goal. He scored early in the third period -- from the left circle -- to break a 3-3 tie. He also had two assists for his first three-point game as a Gophers. Alt was named the No. 1 star.
Alt, a draftee of the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes, was a plus-5 for the weekend and was on the ice for only one goal -- scored by the Huskies on a power play.
Bruijsten, a junior right winger from Nijmegen, Netherlands, had a hat trick on three shots on goal as UAA beat Colorado College 6-3 on Friday. His first goal was shorthanded and unassisted. His second two came on power plays. He scored one goal every period.
Senior captain Brett Olson of Michigan Tech also was nominated for this award. Olson, a first-line center from Superior, Wis., scored the overtime goal in the first game.
