Gomes out for return to Boston tonight, game will proceed with just two refs

That dreaded "high ankle" sprain will keep the forward out for a fourth consecutive game, tonight against his former Celtics

December 20, 2009 at 10:04PM

Ryan Gomes tried out that injured ankle this morning at the team's shootaround at TD Garden and felt like he was ready to try to play again.

But it looks like the Wolves will hold him out until at least Tuesday against Atlanta so he can get a full practice in.

Gomes has not played since hurting that ankle at Sacramento eight days ago.

Damien Wilkins is expected to start again in his place tonight against a Celtics team that probably will be ornery after their 11-game winning streak ended Friday at home against Philadelphia.

Tonight's game will go on with just two referees instead of three. Official Leon Wood couldn't make it to Boston because of the big East Coast snowstorm. The league tried to get another referee here on short notice, but that didn't work, either.

When told of the two-ref situation, Kevin Love asked, "Can you do that?"

Derrick Stafford and Kevin Fehr will work on without Wood's presence tonight.
