DETROIT — GM says U.S. sales rose 6 percent in June on continuing strong demand for large pickups.

General Motors Co. said sales of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra increased 29 percent and 33 percent, respectively, over last June. GM's newly updated pickup trucks began arriving at dealerships last month and are selling quickly, averaging just 10 days on dealers' lots, the company said.

Cadillac sales gained 15 percent thanks to the new ATS and XTS sedans, while Chevrolet sales were up 7 percent. Sales of the Chevrolet Cruze small car jumped 73 percent, while the Volt electric car rose 53 percent.

GMC sales rose 4.5 percent. Buick brand sales dropped 4 percent on as weak sales of sedans offset double-digit sales increases for the Verano small car and Enclave SUV.
