Gameday preview: Lynx at Mercury

Preview: The Lynx, making their second trip to Phoenix in two weeks, will try to rebound from a 100-76 road loss Saturday to Chicago. The Lynx (13-2), who beat the Mercury 91-83 on June 30, have won the past 10 meetings, including five in the playoffs, between the teams dating to Aug. 7, 2015. The Mercury (11-6) is playing for the third time in six days. Phoenix beat New York 81-69 on Sunday and Atlanta 89-84 on Wednesday with a fourth-quarter rally.

Players to watch: Lynx F Rebekkah Brunson, who is averaging 11 points and 6.9 rebounds per game, scored 22 points (her most since the 2013 season) Saturday. Mercury C Brittany Griner, who leads the league in scoring (22.8) and is sixth in rebounding (8.4), was held to a season-low six points and just three rebounds in the loss to the Lynx two weeks ago. Griner averaged 29.5 points in the victories over New York and Atlanta. Mercury G Diana Taurasi, who became the all-time leading scorer in WNBA history last month, is averaging 18.2 points per game in her 13th season.

Numbers: The 24-point loss to Chicago was the Lynx's worst since an 87-63 loss at Washington last season. Chicago outscored the Lynx 54-22 in the paint. It was the fifth-most points in the paint allowed in Lynx history.

Injuries: None reported.
