The Vikings have the potential to achieve a positive rarity in their coaching search: a guy that is exceedingly qualified and looks like an excellent candidate for all the right football reasons also appears to be an instant fan favorite because of his results and fiery attitude.

Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer is that man. He is said to be among the potential finalists for the job, and he could even be the leader in the clubhouse at this point.

He has been a very good NFL defensive coordinator for more than a decade. He can run either a 4-3 or a 3-4 defense. He's a screamer, but the type who seems to command respect. And he is a person who has dealt with personal tragedy, coming through it with new perspective.

Todd Bowles is said to be the other identified potential finalist. The Vikings could still, too, wait to interview more coaches after this weekend's playoff action.

Bowles would be a good fit. There are other good candidates out there. But it just seems like Zimmer is the perfect storm, and we're all in on that idea right now.
