Five rivalries we need to see played nearly every year:

1. Nebraska-Oklahoma: Black Friday just hasn't been the same since the Huskers and Sooners stopped playing, and we won't be seeing the days of Osborne's veer vs. Switzer's wishbone anytime soon. The good news is the they'll resume the rivalry in 2020 and '21 and 2029 and '30.

2. Texas-Texas A&M: There's talk that this matchup could happen in the Texas Bowl in December in Houston, and if that spurs the Longhorns and Aggies to play every year, it's all for the better. These bitter rivals haven't met since 2011.

3. Penn State-Pitt: Joe Paterno and Jackie Sherrill turned up the heat in this rivalry in the late 1970s, and the Nittany Lions and Panthers resumed playing the past two seasons. They have two more years left on the contract and are working on an extension.

4. Notre Dame-Michigan: With the Fighting Irish becoming a quasi-ACC team, the rivalry with the Wolverines took a hiatus. But it's back on next year and in 2019, but after that the Irish have Ohio State, Wisconsin, Michigan State and Purdue as nonconference opponents from the Big Ten.

5. West Virginia-Virginia Tech: The Mountaineers and Hokies ended a 12-year hiatus with Virginia Tech's 31-24 win in Landover, Md., on Sept. 3, and they'll meet again in 2021 and '22. But we deserve a yearly matchup of these former Big East foes.
