Boston Scientific Corp. said Wednesday it has received Food and Drug Administration approval to market a heart stent that is designed to treat small vessels in the body. The Natick, Mass.-based company said about 10 percent of patients undergoing a stent procedure have small vessels. Stents are tiny mesh struts that prop open clogged arteries. Boston Scientific's stent division is based in Maple Grove. The company said it will immediately launch the newly approved Promus stent in the United States. Hank Kucheman, President of the Cardiology, Rhythm and Vascular business at Boston Scientific, said in a statement the small-vessel stent allows doctors greater flexibility in treating heart patients. The Promus stent is made by Abbott Laboratories, but distributed and marketed by Boston Scientific.Janet Moore • 612-673-7752
