Tim Hartung was named today the head wrestling coach at Eagan High School. Hartung was national and Big Ten champion during his career with the Gophers. He finished his college wrestling career in 1999. He also worked as an assistant coach with the Gophers, Iowa and Iowa State.
As a senior with the Gophers, the native of Durand, Wis., posted an undefeated (39-0) record and became the first Gopher in 51 years to win back-to-back NCAA titles. He was named Big Ten Wrestler of the Year in 1999. Internationally, Hartung was an alternate on the 2004 U.S. Olympic team. He was a 2002 World Team member, winning the U.S. Open that year. Hartung was runner-up at the World Team Trials in 2003, placing third at the 2003 U.S. national meet, fourth at the 2001 U.S. national meet and finished seventh in 2000 at the U.S. Open, all in freestyle.
