DULUTH – A Duluth man was allegedly caught on a recording admitting that he fatally shot his mom, according to charges filed Tuesday in St. Louis County Court.

Nathan Douglas Davin, 46, was alone in an interview room at the Public Safety Building when he allegedly swore and said, “I killed my mother,” and it was caught on a recording.

Duluth police responded to a call to Ninth Avenue E. on Saturday night. Davin, wearing just boxer shorts and seemingly intoxicated, knocked on the door of a neighboring house and allegedly “told the reporting party something about a fatality,” according to court documents.

When officers knocked on Davin’s door he had blood on his hands and said he had found his mom dead, police said. Maedean Davin, 74, was found in a recliner with a fatal gunshot wound. Officers found a spent pistol casing and the bullet, in addition to two pistols, ammunition and several firearms in an unlocked safe.

A 9 mm pistol that appeared to have blood on it was found on Nathan Davin’s nightstand.

Davin was booked into the St. Louis County jail early Sunday. He is charged with second-degree murder with intent, but not premeditation. Davin’s record from the past 30 years has several convictions for traffic violations.
