DULUTH – A 46-year-old Duluth man is in jail pending second-degree murder charges after allegedly shooting his mother.

Duluth police were called to the 1500 block of North 9th Avenue E. on Saturday for a report that a person was dead. Officers found Maedean Davin, 74, had been shot and killed.

Davin’s son was booked into the St. Louis County jail early Sunday morning, accused of intentionally killing Davin, though it was not believed to be premeditated. In the past 30 years, he has had only traffic-related convictions.

The Minnesota Star Tribune does not typically name suspects until they have been formally charged.

The case is under investigation.
