I would avoid social media to get snowfall predictions. Posting potential snowfall from a storm seven to 10 days away? Clickbait, and an utter waste of your time and brain cycles.

Look, meteorologists are graded on snowfall predictions. If the forecast high is off by 3 degrees, nobody cares, but predict 2 inches of snow and wind up with 10 and people will lose their minds.

In recent weeks weather models have consistently spun up “big storms” seven to 15 days into the future, only to wind up with little or no snow. Meteorological mirages. I don’t pretend to have the answer key, but I try to stick to only mentioning inch-amount predictions within 48 hours of the actual event. Science doesn’t allow for an accurate, reliable seven-day snowfall forecast.

Exhibit A: Friday’s potential “storm.“ I’m shocked to see the threat evaporating. Maybe a little MSP slush? Nothing to see here, move along.

Winter isn’t nearly over, but after 20s this weekend I see another run of 30s and a few 40s next week.

“Is the worst of winter over, Paul?” You betcha.
