Delta, attendants clash over union election Delta Air Lines declined a request from flight attendants for an immediate union representation election under proposed new rules that could make it easier for airline workers to unionize. The Association of Flight Attendants' offer of the quick election challenged Delta's claim that unions are delaying labor elections stemming from the airline's merger with Northwest Airlines, which is more heavily unionized. Delta said any election should follow existing rules.

Boston Sci alerts docs on defibrillator use Boston Scientific Corp. has advised doctors about potential problems with a small number of popular, newer heart defibrillators that were implanted beneath patients' chest muscles. Boston Scientific's Cognis and Teligen devices are typically not implanted this way, and the company said in a letter to doctors dated Tuesday that subpectoral implantation should be avoided until improved products are available. About 77,000 of these defibrillators have been implanted around the world, but only about 5 percent were placed in a subpectoral location. The devices are usually placed just below the skin.
