Cuddyer proud of longest hitting streak in career

Denver – The 37,419 fans at Coors Field stood and cheered as Colorado outfielder Michael Cuddyer came to bat Tuesday with two outs in the ninth inning.

The ex-Twin had one last chance to extend his hitting streak, a feat he pulled off Sunday with an eighth-inning single against San Francisco. No such luck against the Los Angeles Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw, who threw a four-hitter in an 8-0 victory over the Rockies.

Cuddyer's franchise-record 27-game hitting streak ended on a fly ball to right field. He hit .372 with six home runs and 19 RBI during the streak.

"If it was going to end, might as well end against the best pitcher in the league," Cuddyer said. "I'm proud of it. No question. It's a long time, longer than I've ever gone."
