DEBT AND EQUITY Amcom Software Inc., Eden Prairie, announced it has received a significant investment from Minneapolis investors Norwest Equity Partners and Split Rock Partners. The transaction also means early funder Gavin Hill Capital Partners exited the investment.

MERGERS AND ACQUISITIONS Lerner Publishing Group, Minneapolis, has acquired Darby Creek Publishing, Columbus, Ohio, from Media Source. Darby Creek publishes fiction and nonfiction titles for the school and public library markets, as well as for the trade bookstore market. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

ShoreView Industries, Minneapolis, a private-equity firm, has purchased Twinco Romax, Medina, from Clearview Capital LLC. Twinco makes automotive fluids and aftermarket parts. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The business formerly known as Creative Carton, Brooklyn Park, has changed its name to Great Northern Corp., to reflect its acquisition by the Appleton, Wis.-based company in March 2008. Great Northern has more than 950 employees and operations in seven states.

NEW BUSINESS Minnesota Power, Duluth, an Allete company, finalized the $70 million purchase of a 465-mile, 250-kilovolt transmission line connecting Center, N.D., with Minnesota Power's Arrowhead Substation in Hermantown. Minnesota Power plans to develop several hundred megawatts of new wind generation in North Dakota and deliver wind-fueled electricity to customers via the transmission line.

OrthoCor Medical Inc., St. Paul, has received Food and Drug Administration clearance for its OrthoCor Knee System, a device that uses electromagnetic energy to treat knee pain. The system can be used for post-operative pain and provides temporary relief of minor muscular and joint pain associated with overexertion, strains, sprains and arthritis.
