Comcast said Thursday it will provide 1-gigabit Internet speed, which is among its fastest business services, to technology workspace firm CoCo as part of a partnering relationship.
The service will be at CoCo's two Minneapolis locations, including one opening on W. Lake Street this week. CoCo, which stands for Coworking & Collaborative Space, also has an office in St. Paul, which will get the higher-speed service later.
CoCo was already a Comcast Internet customer when it approached the cable firm seeking a higher speed, reportedly at the same cost. Comcast declined to disclose the terms of its business agreement with CoCo.
The 1-gigabit speed for both downloads and uploads represents one of Comcast's top tiers of business Internet service and is up to 1,000 times faster than a typical consumer Internet connection.
"We see a great opportunity to help small business and entrepreneurs," said Jeff Freyer, Comcast's regional vice president for the Twin Cities. "It helps us with recruiting, and it also helps with the way we're perceived in the community."
