LSU coach Brady fired after 10 years John Brady was fired as LSU's basketball coach Friday with his team struggling at 8-13, a dismissal that left him in tears at a farewell news conference.
"I've coached in the best league in the country and I've coached a lot of great guys," Brady said during the afternoon news conference with LSU athletic director Skip Bertman. "They've done some great things that had not been done here in a long time."
Brady was the third-winningest coach in the university's history. His 192-139 record in 10 years included two first-place finishes in the SEC and a trip to the 2006 Final Four.
Associate head coach Butch Pierre will take over for the rest of the season.
• Missouri senior guard Stefhon Hannah was arrested on third-degree assault charges related to a nightclub brawl that left him with a broken jaw.

Terrapins triumph • No. 4 MARYLAND 86, VIRGINIA 80: Laura Harper had 25 points and 15 rebounds, Marissa Coleman scored 21 and grabbed 12 rebounds, and the Terrapins (25-2, 9-1 ACC) held off the visiting Cavaliers (17-5, 5-2).

Dragons win • MSU (MOORHEAD 64, NORTHERN STATE 52: Allison Swenson scored 13 points as the Dragons (14-8, 8-5 NSIC) beat the visiting Wolves (9-14, 5-9). Jaclyn Arns had 15 for the Wolves. ... Kelly Lund scored 23 points on 8-for-10 shooting as Concordia (St. Paul) defeated the University of Mary (13-9, 8-6) 85-56. The Golden Bears are 21-1 overall, 12-1 in the NSIC. ... Teresa Case scored 17 points as visiting Wayne State (16-7, 9-5 NSIC) defeated visiting Winona State (17-7, 7-6) 68-62.
