MPR’s “All Things Considered” has revealed its next host.
Clay Masters, who has served as a political correspondent at the station since early 2024, will move into the seat, anchoring local stories that are reported during breaks from the national program, a staple on NPR stations since 1971.
Masters replaces Tom Crann, who announced in April that he was moving over to YourClassical MPR after 20 years at “All Things Considered.”
“‘All Things Considered’ was the public radio show I listened to regularly,” Masters said in a news release. “I look forward to being the local host in Minnesota for a program I’ve long respected.”
Masters previously worked at Iowa Public Radio, where he eventually hosted IPR’s “Morning Edition.” He hails from Nebraska.
“We needed someone who connects with audiences on a personal level and embodies our commitment to fact-based, nonpartisan journalism,” MPR programming director Stephanie Curtis said. “Clay is exactly that.”
The news comes as some smaller public radio stations are reacting to end of federal funding for public media by cutting back on costs to carry NPR shows. According to an NPR News story, stations in Alabama, Oregon and Florida are dropping their affiliation with the mothership.
Masters starts his new gig on Sept. 29. “All Things Considered” runs in the Twin Cities from 3 to 6 p.m. on 91.1 FM.
