Menards has recalled a 7.5-foot pre-lit artificial Christmas tree that poses a fire hazard.

The tree's lights can "overheat and melt, posing fire, burn and shock hazards" according to Seasonal ­Specialties of Eden Prairie, which distributed the Chinese-made ­twinkling pine.

Consumers should return the tree immediately to Menards for a full refund with or without a receipt, even if it appears to be working fine. They should not attempt repairs on their own, according to Seasonal ­Specialties.

The green "Enchanted Forest" tree has 400 champagne-colored slow twinkling LED lights pre-attached. The model number 287-1261 and UPC 741895425478 are printed on the box and on a red tag attached to a tree branch. The small, flat-tip cylindrical bulbs are made of plastic.

The tree was sold exclusively at Menards stores nationwide and at Menards.com from September 2013 to November 2013 for about $300.

Menard Inc., based in Eau Claire, Wis., has received two reports of the light strings overheating, melting or smoking. No injuries have been reported, according to the U.S. ­Consumer Product Safety Commission. About 1,800 of the trees have been sold.
