Menards has recalled a 7.5-foot pre-lit artificial Christmas tree that poses a fire hazard.
The tree's lights can "overheat and melt, posing fire, burn and shock hazards" according to Seasonal ÂSpecialties of Eden Prairie, which distributed the Chinese-made Âtwinkling pine.
Consumers should return the tree immediately to Menards for a full refund with or without a receipt, even if it appears to be working fine. They should not attempt repairs on their own, according to Seasonal ÂSpecialties.
The green "Enchanted Forest" tree has 400 champagne-colored slow twinkling LED lights pre-attached. The model number 287-1261 and UPC 741895425478 are printed on the box and on a red tag attached to a tree branch. The small, flat-tip cylindrical bulbs are made of plastic.
The tree was sold exclusively at Menards stores nationwide and at Menards.com from September 2013 to November 2013 for about $300.
Menard Inc., based in Eau Claire, Wis., has received two reports of the light strings overheating, melting or smoking. No injuries have been reported, according to the U.S. ÂConsumer Product Safety Commission. About 1,800 of the trees have been sold.
