DETROIT -- The Twins placed starting pitcher Nick Blackburn on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a strained left quadriceps muscle and chose not to place catcher Ryan Doumit on the DL.
Doumit had an MRI exam on Wednesday night, and the team said the results came back favorable. The Twins announced the move that Doumit was heading to the DL on Wednesday night, but the official move hadn't been made.
Ben Revere has been recalled from Class AAA Rochester and will start in center field today.
With an open date Monday, the Twins won't need a replacement for Blackburn until May 26, when the face the Tigers at Target Field. For now, they'll play with 12 pitchers and 13 position players, and Manager Ron Gardenhire noted that it's good to have the extra position player for this weekend's interleague series in Milwaukee.
"Doumit is going to go day-to-day," Gardenhire said. "He got good news on the MRI last night. It's a mild strain of the calf. And there's thoughts that it's going to be a few days here. We'll see how we get through Milwaukee [this weekend], and he believes if he had to go out there, he could play right now. He came in feeling pretty good, so that's really good news for us.
"The announcement that he was on the DL was just a little early. ... We just got a little ahead of ourselves. It's our mistake because Doumit didn't sleep last night hearing he was on the DL. So I told him, call me."
Today's challenge: Doug Fister
The Twins have a chance to sweep a two-game series from the Tigers this afternoon, but they'll have to overcome Doug Fister and his 0.54 ERA to do it.
