Age: 27

Home: Minneapolis
Job: I work as the program administrator for the Center for Neurobehavioral Development at the University of Minnesota. The focus of the center is basic and clinical research in the general field of neurobehavioral development.

Salary: $35,000 to $40,000 plus benefits.

Education: Major in organizational development, minor in communication from the University of Minnesota Duluth.

How'd you get the job? I was fortunate enough to hear of the opportunity through an acquaintance. The timing happened to be just right and I fit well within the team. It's a small office, both in physical space and number of people, so it is important for all of us to work well together on all levels.

Last major purchase: I recently purchased a new car. I drove my last one into the ground and it was necessary to get something before another Minnesota winter. After much research I decided on a used Saab 9-2X. I love it. It fits my needs perfectly and was within my budget.

Next major purchase: I am considering purchasing a duplex. I think it could potentially be a good investment for me at this point in my life, although I need to do more research on what it would take to become a landlord. Also, I am unsure whether I really want to take on that level of responsibility. I am quite happy where I am.

Spending and saving system? I am responsible with my money. I am aware of my spending habits and I do have a budget plan that I try to stick to. I contribute to my savings on a monthly basis and have a few investments. Having said that, I am not one to be overly concerned about money. I know that I don't always make decisions based on logic and practicality. I give in to impulses at times, and I am OK with that.

Smart money advice: Try to live within your means. Also, buy what food you can from a local Farmers Market: so much more for your money and what a great way to support your local community!

Stupid money choices: I love good food and wine. I probably spend way too much money on these things, but I definitely find it worth it.

Addictive purchases? I will spend money on a good show or CD a bit more often than I should. Those are my impulse buys.
