Canterbury Park has announced it will offer a track-record $600,000 in stakes purses for quarter horses this season, topped by the $100,000 Mystic Lake Northlands Futurity on July 10.
The Shakopee track will host 13 quarter horse stakes during a season that runs from May 20-Sept. 17. The Northlands Futurity is part of a card that also includes the $50,000 Canterbury Quarter Horse Derby and the $20,000 added Minnesota Stallion Breeders' Futurity, making it the season's richest day of quarter horse racing.
The track also has added two new quarter horse stakes, the $65,000 Bank of America Canterbury Park Challenge Championship and the $30,000 Merial Canterbury Park Distaff Challenge, both on July 17.

The No. 3-ranked Gophers women's hockey team plays Minnesota State Mankato in a Saturday-Sunday series at Ridder Arena. Both games are 2 p.m.
The Gophers (18-3, 13-3) have 28 consecutive wins over the Mavericks (3-17-2, 0-15-1) and beat them 11-1 and 2-1 in late November in Mankato.
With another Minnesota sweep, Gophers coach Brad Frost would tie Laura Halldorson for the most coaching wins in program history with 278. The Gophers have a 27-game unbeaten streak at home.
