Wild winger Kirill Kaprizov won the Calder Trophy as the NHL's top rookie in 2021. A look back at the other winners since 2010:
2020: Cale Makar, Colorado: A 5-11 defenseman, Makar has been a sometimes spectacular playmaker for the Cup-contending Avalanche.
2019: Elias Pettersson, Vancouver: The Swedish center just signed a three-year, $21 million deal for the rebuilding Canucks.
2018: Matthew Barzal, N.Y. Islanders: The playmaking center has yet to match his 85-point rookie season, although the Islanders have become a much better team.
2017: Auston Matthews, Toronto: The first pick in 2016 has been a prolific scorer; he led the NHL with 41 goals last season.
2016: Artemi Panarin, Chicago: Like Kaprizov, the Russian made a late NHL debut (24). Now with the Rangers, he has 473 points in 433 NHL games and has been a Hart finalist.
2015: Aaron Ekblad, Florida: The top pick in 2011 has been a reliable defenseman for the Panthers. But not a star.
2014: Nathan MacKinnon, Colorado: First overall pick in 2013 is an All-Star center who hit his stride after 2017 (354 points in 273 games).
