Brewers' Gomez appears set to start for NL in All-Star Game

At least one former Twins player appears set to start at this year's All-Star Game at Target Field.

Milwaukee's Carlos Gomez moved up one spot to second place among National League outfielders in the latest round of voting released Wednesday by Major League Baseball. The top three in voting for outfielders will start in the game July 15, and Gomez, with 3,169,748 votes, has a healthy lead over fourth-place Giancarlo Stanton of Miami (2,681,019 votes).

Gomez was only a little more than 4,000 votes behind leading outfielder Andrew McCutchen of Pittsburgh. The Dodgers' Yasiel Puig fell from first to third with 3,001,907 votes.

The leaders at other positions held firm: St. Louis' Yadier Molina at catcher, Arizona's Paul Goldschmidt at first base, Philadelphia's Chase Utley at second, Milwaukee's Aramis Ramirez at third and Colorado's Troy Tulowitzki at shortstop. With 3,997,477 votes, Tulowitzki is the top vote-getter in the NL. He also will serve as the NL captain for the Home Run Derby.

Voting closes Thursday night, with All-Star starters and reserves announced at 6 p.m. Sunday on ESPN.
