Brewer, Beasley to start for Timberwolves at San Antonio

Wolves face team they've led by 21 and 15 points and lost to twice

January 10, 2011 at 12:12AM

Corey Brewer will get the start in place of rookie Wes Johnson tonight against the Spurs at AT&T Center for what Kurt Rambis calls his defense, his energy and the need to contain Manu Ginobili.

Michael Beasley, who turned 22 today, will start, too, even though he hurt his hip and turned his ankle in Friday's loss to Portland.

Rambis also called Nikola Pekovic's little or no playing time the last two games a matter of circumstances and said he expects the rookie center will get more minutes tonight because of matchups.

This is a rare occasion where the Wolves play the same opponent in consecutive games: The Spurs visit Target Center on Tuesday. Spurs coach Gregg Popovich says he "hates, hates" such situations because it's hard to beat the same team twice in a row.

Remember the two previous times these two teams played: The Wolves led by 21 and 15 and lost both.

Also, today's Sunday paper had a big centerpiece on Kevin Love and the art of rebounding that I'd been working on for weeks.

You can find it here as well as a sidebar with quotes and such from coaches around the league.
