Boys' swimming story lines: Edina poised for a team title run

Edina ready to return

Edina hasn't won the Class 2A state title since winning three consecutive championships from 2008-10. Coach Scott Johnson's squad welcomes back all but one entrant from its sixth-place group of a year ago. Add Bloomington Jefferson transfer senior Peter Larson to the mix and the Hornets are quickly among the title favorites. Larson, who sat out last season after transferring schools, is headed to the University of Texas. Senior teammate Andrew Gray is Arizona State-bound.

Breck/Blake seniors eye three-peat

Breck/Blake successfully defended its Class 1A state championship by more than 100 points a year ago. It also won the True Team title for the first time. Don't expect anything to change this season. Defending state champions Anderson Breazeale (100 backstroke) and Spencer Pruett (500 freestyle) headline a strong senior class. "The biggest strengths of this team are the level of depth at each event and the high level of senior leadership," Breck/Blake coach Brian Wright said.

Chaska/Chanhassen united

The two schools have been a cooperative program in past years but split up as individual entities come section and state meet time. That won't be the case in 2018-19. "Our program is a cooperative program from the start to the end of the year," Chaska/Chanhassen coach Megan Hawker said. "It will be exciting to see what this change brings." Chanhassen took third place in the 2A state meet a year ago; Chaska finished 21st.
