Both drivers killed in head-on crash on rural Minnesota highway

The patrol has not said on which side of the highway the crash occurred.

Two drivers were killed in a head-on crash in Stearns County, officials said.

The collision occurred about 5:10 p.m. on Jan. 2 about 5 miles northeast of Belgrade on Hwy. 71 in Lake George Township, the State Patrol said.

A Dodge SUV was heading north on Hwy. 71 near 265th Street and collided with a Kia SUV heading south, the patrol said.

The patrol has not said on which side of the highway the crash occurred.

Killed were the Dodge’s driver, Paul Joseph Matthys, 55, of Osakis, Minn.; and the Kia’s driver, Linda Shirleen Erickson, 63, of Sauk Centre, Minn., according to the patrol.

Both drivers died before they could be hospitalized.
