Southpoint Center, a large office building in Bloomington, sold for $44.6 million earlier this week, according to Hennepin County real estate records.

The buyer is an entity connected to Minnetonka-based Founders Properties, which was started in 1997 by Best Buy Co. Inc. founder Richard Schulze and Opus founder Gerald Rauenhorst.

Schulze resigned as chairman of Best Buy and, more recently, launched a bid to buy back the company he founded and take it private.

Privately held Founders' portfolio consists of about 100 office, industrial, retail and mixed-use projects throughout the United States, according to the firm's website.

Hennepin County property records indicate Bloomington-based United Properties sold Southpoint's three parcels on W. 82nd Street with an assessed value of $45.9 million.
