Benfield, the nation's largest reinsurance broker, uses complex computer models to assess risks to casualty insurance companies from a wide range of catastrophes, from fire and flood, to tornado and earthquake.

That information helps insurance companies decide how much risk they want to keep on their books and how much to sell to reinsurance companies, which are in the business of taking on excess risk -- for a price.

Benfield is the U.S. arm of London-based Benfield Group. It has 400 employees in its Bloomington headquarters and 800 employees nationwide.
