Twin Cities builders and developers honor their own

October 27, 2016 at 10:00PM

If you asked Twin Cities builders and developers to name their favorite housing development, which would they choose?

At the Builders Association of the Twin Cities (BATC) annual awards gala last week at Mystic Lake Casino Event Center, they picked Woodland Cove in Minnetrista by Mattamy Homes. The development features several community amenities, including a private club house with swimming pool and outdoor fireplace.

That award, called the Bennie, was one of more than 151 awards announced during the industry gala, which was attended by more than 700 builders, developers and their associates. The awards honor the top companies and individuals in the residential construction field.

BATC also announced its Reggie winners, a category that recognizes 21 new houses in various price ranges. The Remodeler of Merit Awards went to 16 remodeling projects.

Other 2016 big winners included:

• Builder of the Year: Homes by Tradition.

• Remodeler of the Year: Vujovich Design Build.

• Associate of the Year: Twin City Fireplace & Stone Company.

The Robert L. Hanson Service Award for industry service went to Shawn Nelson of New Spaces for his efforts to recruit new members. Advocate of the Year went to John Rask, M/I Homes. And Legislators of the Year are Rep. Jim Nash, R-Waconia, and Sen. Melisa Franzen, DFL-Edina.

Meg Jaeger, BATC's 2016 president, said the event is a chance to celebrate the homes and communities "they've built that truly make the Twin Cities a better place to call home."
