Area college football roundup: Concordia (Moorhead) holds off Gustavus Adolphus

The Cobbers stopped a two-point conversion attempt with 77 seconds left, twice, to win by a point.

Grant Mages caught two touchdown passes and host Concordia (Moorhead) stopped a Gustavus Adolphus two-point conversion attempt with 77 seconds left and held on for a 14-13 victory Saturday.

Dylan Blount’s 9-yard touchdown pass to Morgan Smith capped a 10-play, 87-yard drive for Gustavus. The Gusties had two chances at the go-ahead conversion because of a penalty, but their first attempt was a failed pass and their second was a run that was stopped.

Mages caught TD passes of 20 yards and 6 yards in the third quarter to give the Cobbers a 14-7 lead.

Bethel 62, Hamline 12: Taye Manns and David Geebli each ran for three touchdowns to lead the Royals past the host Pipers. Manns rushed for 155 yards as the Royals ran for 280 yards.

Carleton 35, St. Olaf 28: Jack Curtis passed for 396 yards and three touchdowns as the host Knights outlasted the rival Oles in Northfield. Carleton’s Tyler Dimond caught seven passes for 181 yards, including a 40-yard touchdown.

St. John’s 63, Augsburg 0: Trey Feeney passed for 212 yards and two TDs and Zander Dittbenner threw a TD pass and ran for two TDs as the host Johnnies, ranked No. 4 in Division III, scored on nine of their 10 possessions vs. the Auggies. The Johnnies had 36 first downs and outgained Augsburg 624-133.

St. Scholastica 37, Macalester 34 (2OT): Andrew Jacobs’ 35-yard field goal in the second overtime lifted the host Saints past the Scots in Duluth. The Saints tied it with 63 seconds left in regulation on Donald West’s 64-yard touchdown run.

Division II

Minnesota State Mankato 38, Sioux Falls 12: Maximus Sims passed for 310 yards and a touchdown and ran for two TDs to pace the host Mavericks vs. the Cougars. Sam Backer scored three TDs for 14th-ranked MSU Mankato.

Minnesota Duluth 28, Minnesota State Moorhead 14: Kyle Walljasper threw a TD pass in the third quarter and ran for a TD in the fourth as the host Bulldogs, ranked No. 11 in Division II, beat the Dragons. Walljasper’s 31-yard TD pass to Ryder Patterson with 22 seconds left in the third quarter put UMD ahead for good.

Minot State 28, Bemidji State 21: Nalu Cordeiro returned an interception 49 yards for a tiebreaking TD with 1:46 to play and then intercepted a pass at his own 6-yard line with 8 seconds left to seal the host Beavers’ victory.

Augustana 34, Winona State 26: Gunnar Hensley threw for 317 yards and three TDs and the host Vikings held off the Warriors. Jackson Flottmeyer passed for 347 yards and three TDs for the Warriors.

Jamestown 33, Concordia (St. Paul) 22: Cole Hentges passed for 197 yards and an 89-yard touchdown to Erastus Antsino and rushed for 117 yards and three TDs to lead the visiting Jimmies to their first NSIC victory. Troy Ellison ran for a TD and caught a TD pass in the fourth quarter for the Golden Bears.
