The Twins had to wait nearly two extra hours before their 2016 season was officially underway on Monday. Inclement weather postponed the opener in Baltimore though no rain actually fell during the extended delay.
The rain finally arrived in the second inning and the game was delayed again in the top of the third with the score stuck at 0-0.
The Twins and Orioles weren't the only teams that had Opening Day spoiled by weather.
Snow that eventually turned to rain postponed the New York Yankees' Home Opener against the Houston Astros on Monday.
Rain and snow flurries also delayed the Cleveland Indians and Boston Red Sox Opening Day. The Indians tweeted a video of Progressive Field with Monday's 31-degree temperature highlighted. It was warmer on Christmas and Thanksgiving, the tweet read.
The weather in Boston was worse with Fenway Park buried in snow. The Red Sox Home Opener is next Monday.
The weather in the Twin Cities wasn't much better with a high of 40, low of 29, and a mix of light snow flurries. The Twins' Home Opener is scheduled for next Monday with an improved forecast of 51-degrees and partly cloudy.
Twins beat writer Phil Miller reports that Monday's delay in Baltimore is expected to clear up by 6 p.m. CT.
