The apartment boom is working its way to the 'burbs.

Harriss Associates recently presented plans with the Minnetonka Planning Commission for a four-story, market-rate apartment building called Tonka on the Creek at 9731 Minnetonka Blvd. Those plans call for about 90 rental apartments in a "contemporary organic" building along Minnehaha Creek. The building will sport a rooftop grill station, deck, community garden plots, a community room and fitness center. It'll also have a unique stormwater drainage system that will divert runoff into an underground storage container under the parking lot.

A public hearing on the project is scheduled for May 23.

This week, Trammell Crow announced plans to build nearly 200 rental units in nearby Golden Valley, on top of about 600 units already planned.
