Andersen Corp. said Monday that CEO Jim Humphrey will retire March 31 and will be succeeded by Jay Lund, currently president and chief operating officer of the Bayport-based window manufacturer.

The company said the moves are part of succession planning. Humphrey, 64, has been CEO since 2003 and will continue to serve as chairman. Humphrey previously had a long career at Armstrong World Industries and moved to Andersen in 1999.

Lund, 52, was named president last year. Before joining Andersen in 1985 he was a consultant to the firm.

Andersen is privately held and does not disclose revenue figures but says it is the world's largest manufacturer of windows, patio doors and storm doors. It markets products throughout North America, South America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

The company has about 10,000 employees, about half of them in Minnesota, according to spokeswoman Maureen McDonough. She said the company has not had to trim its workforce this year and has even added some workers despite continuing depressed conditions in the U.S. housing market. In 2009 it eliminated 250 management and staff positions, more than half of them at its Bayport headquarters, and cut 287 jobs as part of the closing of a vinyl window manufacturing plant in Fall River, Mass.
