Three of the four Kerasotes movie theaters in the Twin Cities will be acquired by AMC Entertainment Inc. as part of a nationwide deal announced Tuesday.
AMC, the Kansas City-based theater chain that already operates four multiplexes in the Twin Cities area, will acquire the Kerasotes multiplexes in Coon Rapids, in Inver Grove Heights and at Block E in downtown Minneapolis.
The sale does not include the new ShowPlace Icon concept theater in St. Louis Park, which will continue to be owned and operated by the Kerasotes family, AMC said.
Kerasotes Theatres Inc., based in Chicago, owns 96 theaters, primarily in the Midwest; all but three are being sold to AMC. The chain is owned by the Kerasotes family and Providence Equity Partners.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. When asked about the future of the three Twin Cities theaters, AMC spokeswoman Sun Dee Larson said she couldn't comment beyond the news release.
AMC's Twin Cities theaters are at Arbor Lakes in Maple Grove, Eden Prairie Center, Southdale in Edina and Rosedale in Roseville.
