A zip line, zoo and velodrome top the list of latest amenities in master-planned communities

Velodrome, beach-ringed lagoon and 200-step outdoor staircase are among the most unusual offerings

Devyn Bachman, a research analyst for John Burns Real Estate Consultanting, scoured the nation in search of the most unusual - and interesting - amenities in master-planned communities around the country. Most are focused on outdoor activities, including a world-class velodrome at Riverwalk near Charlotte, South Carolina; a massive man-made, self-cleaning lake called the crystal lagoon (like the one in Chile that's pictured below) at Park Place near Tampa, Florida; and a 200-step outdoor staircase called the Incline at the Meadows near Denver, Colorado.
