A little spice! Delmon is plunked, benches empty in Twins game

Things are heating up in the ninth inning.

October 1, 2009 at 8:21PM

Not sure how much of this has to do with tensions from a four-game series boiling over, the Twins nearly plunking Adam Everett in the 8th (warnings were issued, Leyland was tossed), Scott Baker plunking Marcus Thames earlier or something that goes even further back (or maybe even the pitch-tipping stuff?), but Delmon Young was just clearly intentionally drilled to start the top of the 9th by Jeremy Bonderman. ... Bonderman and catcher Gerald Laird were tossed.

Benches cleared. Nothing much happened, though Young was plenty steamed.

Remember these last couple innings if -- and we realize it's a long shot -- there's a one-game playoff.
