9-man final: Nicollet charges late, advances to the Prep Bowl

The Raiders were out-numbered in just about every category but the most important one: on the score board.

Really?

Nicollet finished Saturday morning's first quarter in the red offensively against Ada-Borup in the 9-man semis and with 6:26 remaining in the third quarter was down 27-15. But in true Bluto fashion, the Raiders refused to say 'it's over.'

Nicollet scored twice in the final quarter, the last coming with 1:49 to play to take a 36-35 lead. That stuck, and the upset was on.

Let's take a look at some numbers, shall we?

The Cougars held the ball for 31:11 in the game, leaving just 16:49 for the Raiders, who played nearly the whole game on offense with quarterback Jordan Rudenick in a shotgun formation and scrambling from Ada-Borup defenders. The Cougars sacked Rudenick seven times. Rudenick, though, threw five touchdown passes.

Ada-Borup finished with 419 yards of total offense to Nicollet's 267. The Raiders were 1-11 (!!!) on third downs.

OK - I have to pay attention to the Class 1A game now, which is already 7-0 Minneota over the Awesome Blossoms of Blooming Prairie.
